400m Run To Assault Bike - As you know, we exercise in very different ways these days… sometimes at home, sometimes at the gym, sometimes on the go. Since rowing machines, bikes and sometimes running classes aren't always available, we want to give you an easier way to switch up your workouts. This conversion guide is NEW AND IMPROVED as we've optimized the data based on more input and observations from our community. It also gives you options if you do a modification and want an alternative movement (for example, you roll your ankle during the last 5km and want to cycle instead of running a few laps of 400m).
We know very well that there are many, many factors needed to accurately convert these metabolic, distance and energy measurements. We have reviewed several generally accepted conversion formulas and developed what we believe is the optimal conversion for our members. We know your goals. We know your work capacity. We know you.

So, if you're looking for scientifically validated conversions in these various domains of motion, stop reading and go HERE. However, if you want to get the boost and time mastery you want for any of our exercises, but don't have (or can't use) the equipment, then this should make your life a lot easier.

By the way, no need to bookmark this chart... you can always find it on the right sidebar of our daily WOD page and in the post under "Member Quick Links" ==>
Rows will usually be written as meters, so using the main graph, find the running distance specified in the workout and find the associated row meters or bike calories. Or, if you're at home and prefer not to run in the rain, you can turn the run into stairs (keeping in mind that "flight" is the same as going up and down).
Cycling is usually written as calories, so again using the main graph, find the cycling calories set in the workout and just look across the rows to find the associated run, fly or row meters.
Erg skis are becoming increasingly popular at CrossFit gyms and we've done some preliminary work estimating our calorie and meter conversions to erg skis. There's not a lot of data publicly available, but based on the little information we've found along with what we've seen in our gyms, skiers can generally follow the same guidelines we provide for rowers. We'll keep an eye on this data and update it as we learn more.
